Linden Gate 15.12.1981
When Jonathan was having a rough time.
Just after Dawn came, written for her to sing.
Leaves keep falling till the trees stand bare
Autumn debris lies strewn everywhere.
Lord my life’s just shattered fragments,
Everything I love is dying.
Lord it’s snowing and I dread death’s cold chill;
The air is silent the ground is like steel.
Lord my heart and lips are frozen,
And I am afraid to love once more –
Afraid to love, afraid to love once more.
Searching only to confront a closed door
Reasoning, looking till my eyes are sore –
Have I really seen this star before?
Glittering lights can be deceiving.
Follow this light then I must leave all
And surrender to its beck and call.
Life is dark and the cold night is still;
I must rise and follow, yes I will,
O Lord I will. I’ll follow, yes I will.
Lord, it’s warmer now I’m travelling on.
This star appears to be more like the sun.
Autumn’s fragments change to flowers
And I find new hope for living.
Light grows stronger and the snow melts away,
Earth’s approaching the break of day.
Life is here for all the winter’s done
And the star has given way to the Son,
God’s only Son. The star is now the Son.
