Brother Lazarus

  1. Brother Lazarus -:-- / 3:13

London January 1980.
Music and narration for a mime – freely adapted from John 11, for Colin to sing.

When brother Lazarus took a chill
There was no cure for his ill
Quoth Mary “Wish the Lord were here still.”
PRAISE GOD FOR EVER, AMEN

“Let’s send for the good Master”
Said Martha, “or disaster
Could overtake us now alas.”
PRAISE GOD FOR EVER, AMEN

The message they dispatched in haste;
Two days passed, hopes began to wane,
And then poor Lazarus died in pain.
PRAISE GOD FOR EVER, AMEN

And then at last the Master came
Said Martha, “Lord you are to blame!
Had you come quickly he’d been saved.”
PRAISE GOD FOR EVER, AMEN

“I am the resurrection” said He,
“And life. He who believes in me
Although he die yet shall he live”
PRAISE GOD FOR EVER, AMEN

He lifted then His eyes to heaven:
“I thank you father, you listen to me;
Let these poor folks know you’ve sent me.”
PRAISE GOD FOR EVER, AMEN

He lifted the His voice and cried,
“Come forth” to Lazarus, who had died;
And he that was dead came forth, but tied.
PRAISE GOD FOR EVER, AMEN

And last of all the Master cried,
“Untie him, he must needs abide
with me both now and eternally.”
PRAISE GOD FOR EVER, AMEN
