Come and worship raise the anthem
Shake the earth with shouts of praise!
Sing to Christ who brought salvation,
Wondrous in his works and ways:
God eternal, Word incarnate,
Whom the heaven of heavens obeys.
Long before he made the mountains,
Formed the seas or spread the sky,
Love eternal, free and boundless,
Moved the Lord of life to die;
Fore-ordained the Prince of princes
For the throne of Calvary.
Now his work on earth completed,
seated at the Father’s side,
Jesus lives and reigns for ever –
Victor after hard-fought fight –
where the song of all the ransomed
rings unceasing day and night.
Original words: Job Hupton
Hupton wrote much both in prose and verse, his compositions appearing in the Gospel Magazine under the signatures of “Ebenezer,” “Eliakini, and “J. H—n.” His prose writings were collected and published in 1843, under the title The Truth as it is in Jesus.
