Lord you’ve searched me, well you know my joys and my fears;
When I sit and when I rise my thoughts to you are clear.
You discern my actions and ways; you hand is laid on me.
O how wonderful your knowledge! Your knowledge and your love for me!
Should I try to flee your presence, where could I go?
If I hide in highest heaven or in the depths below,
if I take the wings of the dawn or cross the furtherest sea,
Even there you hand will guide me and your right hand will hold me fast.
If I say the darkness hides me Lord from your sight,
Even midnight’s darkness shines to you as noonday’s light.
You did form my inner most being when I was in the womb;
All my days by you were numbered, Lord, from the cradle to the tomb.
O how precious are your thoughts to me, O my God!
Search me, know my heart and all the anxious thoughts I have.
By your Spirit cleanse all my ways, remove the sin in me,
And in life eternal lead me. May I your faithful servant be.
